Picavi addresses technical challenges and transforms those challenges into practical, market-ready solutions.

Smart Glasses – Smart Picking

With Picavi, smart glasses can let warehouse workers keep their hands free and have the pick list constantly in view. This creates the best conditions for continuous material flow and uninterrupted shift operation in the warehouse.

Years of experience make the difference. With our wide-ranging expertise, we developed the software to best exploit the resources of wearable technology, with ideal operating temperature and increased performance duration. Alongside the Picavi Power Control, lean processes help ensure a long running time. All processes, including scanning, have been optimized. Picavi also only uses the camera, scan engine and microphone if required. The most important data are saved temporarily and constantly updated via WLAN.

Quick and reliable picking processes

Implementing Picavi is extremely simple for businesses and their staff:

  • Manufacturer-independent connection to the warehouse management or ERP system
  • No reconstruction necessary in the warehouse
  • Intuitive and user-friendly operation means short familiarization period
  • Comfortable smart glasses mean high acceptance
  • Smooth transition as the paper pick list becomes a display to go
  • Combines the benefits of pick by voice and pick by light

At the start of their shift, the warehouse worker logs into the system by scanning their personal barcode or QR code. Picavi then transfers the first order to the smart glasses. The smart glasses’ user-friendly interface gives the picker an overview of all the important information in real time, and also keeps their hands free to pick up the goods. Picavi guides the picker to the storage location, where they scan the barcode using the integrated barcode scanner to confirm the pick, with no need to handle a hand scanner or paper list. In order to ensure efficient order processing, Picavi is in constant connection with the respective ERP or WMS.

Picavi communicates constantly with the warehouse management or ERP system. All processing statuses, shortages and production fluctuations are immediately detected and the supply chain management is improved, allowing you to react in real time to deviations. It also ensures complete traceability, allowing staff and businesses to track any movement of goods at any time – from receipt to dispatch, and from the factory gates to the customer thanks to unique barcodes.

Operating systems

The market for PDC devices (portable data collection) is about to undergo great upheaval. With a market share of almost 80%, Windows® Embedded Handheld 6.5 is probably the most successful operating system for industrial mobile computers. This system, however, is nearing the end of its life cycle. As many WEH 6.5 applications are not compatible with the next-generation Microsoft operating systems for mobile computers, many businesses will have to replace the devices and software used in their order picking systems in the coming years. Regardless of whichever operating system current WEH 6.5 users choose, the applications will certainly have to be redeveloped.

This is a good opportunity to also look at new order picking methods and systems, such as vision picking with smart glasses. Smart glasses normally use the Android operating system, which has already gained significant influence for industrial mobile systems. Android has proven itself as a practical solution for industrial use, and offers an increasing number of development and device options.

Barcodes

Perfect goods marking and identification

The barcode, in particular a 2D code, is and remains the identification method of choice in order picking. All that is required for precise and immediate data recording is visual contact between the barcode and the scanning device. The cameras in the smart glasses used by Picavi also allow workers to read linear barcodes and 2D codes when combined with specially developed software, without an additional scanner.

Picavi helps select the correct barcode and analyzes the necessary and important parameters for each customer, such as data content, read distance, available space, duration and compatibility with other systems. Picavi has a solution for every challenge in the warehouse. Long-range scanners, as well as small ring or glove scanners, can be easily connected with the smart glasses via Bluetooth in order to scan items that are far away or difficult to access, as well as in poor light. The software processes every scan, whether from the integrated camera or an externally attached scanner.
