KSB is a leading international manufacturer of pumps and valves that are sold in around 100 countries around the world. Based in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate in south-west Germany, the company has its own research centers and production facilities in 16 countries. Alongside products for end customers, KSB also produces systems for the process and building services engineering sectors, as well as the wastewater, energy and mining industries.
In mid-2017, KSB cooperated with Picavi to digitalize its spare parts logistics. At the company’s warehouse in Grünstadt, over 10,000 individual spare parts are now picked using smart glasses. This new system is faster and has significantly reduced error rates.

After a successful start, the Picavi smart glasses have become part of everyday working life in Grünstadt. KSB now plans to introduce the system in two more spare parts warehouses, so that staff there can also benefit from the advantages of pick-by-vision technology.
Using the smart glasses in production logistics is an opportunity to make picking processes faster and more efficient here too.
The spare parts business is dominated by a high number of products consisting of small parts. The smart glasses delivered impressive results here by graphically processing the information from the viadat warehouse management system.
Spare parts logistics often uses vertical lifts, which can contain hundreds of different items. The pick-by-vision system gives workers a much better overview here, without time-consuming searching.
As well as spare part picking, the smart glasses are also a useful orientation system for the warehouse. This helps accelerate work processes.
