The coronavirus pandemic is bringing project business to a standstill throughout the whole economy. But some companies have decided to fight this trend. By investing in improving their processes, they aim to gain a technological advantage once the crisis is over. A great example of this is Neovia Logistics in the USA,
which is currently expanding the global roll-out of smart glasses. Remote installation support from Picavi’s pick-by-vision experts has made this a very special project.
The world’s largest fleet of smart glasses expanded via remote rollout
Logistics specialist Neovia is active all over the world, and currently has the largest inventory of smart glasses in the intralogistics sector. Now, it is planning to build on this competitive advantage. The major productivity increases enabled by pick-by-vision technology have convinced the company to switch more logistics processes at its international sites to the solution from Picavi. Based near Aachen in western Germany, the high-tech firm has delivered over 180 pairs of glasses, which are currently in use at various locations in the USA and Europe. In the current roll-out, Neovia is benefiting from Picavi’s remote installation service. Given the high risk of infection in the pandemic, this procedure is proving to be a worthwhile investment for both new and existing customers.
Setup at Picavi headquarters
Picavi’s pick-by-vision experts took the lead in setting up the smart glasses for remote installation. The hardware was prepared to make it quick and easy to install by the key users in the logistics centers. This involved setting up the customer software with a customized menu guide and connecting it to the warehouse management system on site. The hardware was connected before delivery, making it ready for use right away.
Plug-and-play installation on site
The on-site installation requirements were kept to a minimum. The glasses were connected to the respective site using the business intelligence software Picavi Cockpit, which features integrated mobile device management (MDM). The MDM has a location go-live function that connects the smart glasses with the on-site WLAN network and Picavi Cockpit. After some brief training, the pickers were ready to start work with the intuitive and user-friendly system. The new pick-by-vision smart glasses provide them with a navigation system that allows them to pick orders efficiently and without fatigue.
